
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan commented on a photo of a new 400 thousand Uzbek soum banknote which netizens have actively shared.

According to the Uzbek money regulator, the post about a 400 thousand soum banknote spreading on social networks and causing discussion is fake. It is a picture of the Uzbek 100,000 soum banknote. The head of the Central Bank information service said that the public would be informed in advance about any bank note faces issued by the Central Issuer.

In accordance with Article 39 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the nominal value of banknotes of Uzbekistan is determined by the Central Bank. In accordance with Article 40 of this law, the Central Bank has the exclusive right to issue banknotes as legal tender on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Conclusion: A banknote with a face value of 400,000 soum doe not exist and has no legal basis.
