Are students from Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan attacked while praying in India?

Students from Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were brutally beaten for praying in a hostel at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, India. This was reported by The New Indian Express referring to the local police report.



"The incident took place on March 16, 2024, around 10:50 pm at the hostel of Gujarat University (affiliated with the government). About twenty people barged in and objected to foreign students praying in the educational institution," Commissioner of Police Malik said.

However, the press secretary of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said no citizen from Uzbekistan participated in the skirmish.



The brawl was reported by the New Indian Express, based on information from the local police. According to the source, on March 16 at around 10:50 p.m., about twenty people barged into the Gujarat University hostel and expressed an objection to foreign students praying in the university.

“Citizens of our country did not participate in the incident at Gujarat University, which spread on social networks,” Akhror Burkhanov, the ministry press service, said.  



According to the official, among the students on the consular list of the Uzbekistan Embassy in India, no students were studying in Gujarat. So far, the diplomatic mission has not received any report from Uzbek students.

In order to clarify this issue, the Uzbek side has established close communication with the government agencies in India.
