Is military chopper really shot down in Uzbekistan airspace?

The news about an Afghan military helicopter that was brought down on the border of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan has quickly spread on local social platforms, such as Telegram.



According to the online post, (translation) an Afghan plane was shot down by Uzbek servicemen that entered the airspace of Uzbekistan.

The downed plane was a Taliban army Mi-17 military plane.

According to available information, the helicopter was flying from Mazar-i-Sharif to Badakhshan, Afghanistan. It is not yet clear how it entered Uzbekistan's airspace. It is reported that more than 15 people were on board the helicopter.

However, the information was not confirmed by the Uzbek authorities.


“We would like to inform you that these reports have no ground and are not true. We ask traditional and social media users to refer only to official sources. Please remember that you are responsible for spreading unfounded false information,” the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
